The same paint applied in the wrong weather can blister within a few years. We explain why temperature, humidity and wind matter.
The life of facade paint depends not only on its quality but also on the day it is applied. Work carried out outside the conditions in the manufacturer's data sheet comes back as early chalking, colour differences and blistering.
Temperature
Most exterior paints require air and surface temperatures between +5 °C and +35 °C. A facade in direct midday sun in summer can exceed this by far, so elevations are painted in turn following the sun.
Humidity and rain
The surface must be dry and no rain should be expected for several hours after application. Paint applied before morning dew has dried does not bond well.
Wind
Strong wind makes paint dry too fast and collect dust, and on tall buildings it is also a scaffolding safety risk.
Best period in Istanbul
April–June and September–October are the most suitable months. Summer work is possible, but painting hours must be planned around the sun.
